I think Ame Dyckman is a great author and I really liked this book. It has a lot of phrases we have all heard a thousand times, but she adds a fresh element to them. The illustrations are darling. I think this will be a great book to read to my 6th Graders getting ready to jump over to 7th grade.

When Life knocks on the door, one child learns that Life is weird and wacky and not always what you expect. But if you can embrace Life and weather the storms, Life can be a beautiful journey.

This book is so cute! "Life" is portrayed as a little gray monster dude who cavorts around, pulling pranks, and having adventures.
The text of this book is full of wisdom and encouragement, but the illustrations are what make it so fun and silly!
The text says "Life is short." and the illustration shows Life trying to reach up a tall table to get a cake. The little Life monster guy is ACTUALLY too short to reach the table. haha! The book is full of silly puns and jokes like that. I love how clever the story is!

The illustrations are what make this book really special. I love the soft lines and bright colors. The energy and action on each page is fantastic, and the expressions on the characters' faces really draws you into the story.

Such a sweet and cute book!

I see where we were headed with this, but it fell flat with both my daughter and my husband.

  • Loveable characters? Yes
Cute, peppy, visual gag about how life is unpredictable, difficult, and frequently pleasantly surprising.

Cute

A very cute, very short book that pairs every cliche expression about life and pairs it with a fun, adorable illustration. It anthropomorphizes life as a cuddly little grey... dog? Monster? Not sure, but it’s quite delightful.

Relatable, clever, hilarious illustrations and text. Life here is personified as a fuzzy gray creature that shape-shifts throughout the child's adventures. This presents many opportunities to joke and share with young readers while still acknowledging that yes, life can be hard sometimes. Definitely use for story time, and take time to ask about and point to all the illustrations on the pages.

This is an absolutely awesome collection of life lessons, helpfully illustrated by the wonderful [a: Cori Doerrfeld|2851649|Cori Doerrfeld|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png]. I loved the literal interpretation of each idea. These are wonderful reminders that we can't control everything in life. <3

This was a cute one--and given the current state of life, it brought both smiles and comfort. There was something for all of the #NeaceNerds in this book: a silly illustration that made my daughter crack up, a joke-y change to a classic saying which made my son smile, or a subtle reference to my husband's all-time favorite movie. These lines were my favorites:

"When Life stinks...shake it off. Life will be sweet again."

"Life is beautiful! Still weird. But beautiful."

True Story...thanks, Ame Dyckman.
