Beautifully written, same as all Backman novels but I it was hard for me to care… I cannot imagine a teenager being to eager to hear some weird ‘old’ guy’s story from his childhood… for the whole duration of the book… not realistic at all. Maybe it was and time for me read this as a lot had happened in my own life but the characters were not too relatable to me. At times it felt like it was too much stuff/issues added to each of the characters or their families. Can someone just be normal and safe? I get the idea behind - all adults are same broken children too, but man, give us a break at least somewhere?
I positively needed more good news from this book. Otherwise as I said - it’s hard to care when life just keeps beating up all the characters again and again…
But I did finish the book, cause the way Backman makes you anticipate certain things to happen in the book and then twists them to be different - he is very good at that!

This is a beautiful story about a group of friends who believed in eachothers more than any of the. believed in themselves.
I don't believe I was in the right mood for this book, and that is not the books fault. I was still intrigued enough to refuse to put it down or add it to the Not Right Now pile.
I loved the story within the story and that it wasn't only the shiny sides of people shown. there is depth and emotion in these characters, but often I found it slow but that made me feel like I was Louisa willing Ted to get to the end of the story then immediately wishing the story wasn't over.
