Loved everything about this book!

I love Backman’s writing style, and I really really wanted to love this book, but I didn’t. I think I just didn’t connect with the characters very well. And maybe I just don’t appreciate art as much as I should 😂. I also felt like the kids didn’t act like actual 14 year olds. They were too wise, and it made the story kind of unbelievable to me. No one talks like any of the characters in real life.

Backmans writing in AMCO toes the right side of the -saccharine sweet / cloyingly sweet line- but this one falls FAR into the cloying side. This book feels like it was created from a bunch of quotes / overly wholesome sayings. After the first 1/3, the ‘plot’ and pacing fell apart and the repetition of the art quotes, friend quotes, life & love quotes got too much. This book was sickly sweet or cringy 95% of the time. The characters dont act like actual human beings, they are like the hallmark movie versions of people.
