Ashes of Midnight is the sixth book in the Midnight Breed series, and by this point I am sure you are thinking hasn't the author ran out of material? Isn't it rehashing of he same stuff? No, it's not. The underlying "war" that has been hinted at and that we have gotten glimspes into, and we have fought small battles of, is still there, and there are still people and battles to be faught and won or lost.

In this book, we start in Germany, and not with a traditional member of the Order, but with a friend of the Order, a leader of a DarkHaven, Andreas. Andreas' world was brought crashing down at the end of book five by someone who unleashed unholy terror on the Darkhaven and slaughtered the entire DarkHaven while he was away, now it is Andreas' turn for revenge. He works to enact that revenge on his own, but knows at some point that he will have to turn to the Order and involve them to help him, in fact, it just might be that what he wants turns out to be what they want too.

Each small battle on the surface is just that a small battle, but with each book, we find that more and more, the players in the small battles are tied to the larger war that is somewhere yet to play out, and yet in each small battle, as the Order wins the small battle, altough Dracos makes off, he is dealt a small defeat time and time again, and so you are kept wanting to read the next book to find out more about what he is planning and what the next small battle will net the Order and what it will deal to Dracos and where it will all lead, it is so much like real life, no one event stands alone on its own, it is tied to other people and other events, and I think maybe that is one of the reason that I keep reading and reading these books!

I really enjoy them, and the well-written and paging turning joy of them.

Loved Andreas story. It was great for him to come to the forefront. For so long, the Order has used his generous resources but now as someone obliterates Riechen's darkhaven, he seeks revenge on his own until he meets his old true love, Claire. It is a great love story about long-lost love as well as a starting over. If you love this series, then this one is a must.

Fantastic! What more can I say? Reichen is my favorite so far and I loved this story and the symbolism behind it all. I just kept thinking of the Phoenix rising from the ashes....that's Reichen and Claire. They over came so much in this book and it was just amazing.
Roth is a dirty SOB and I prayed for his death through the whole book.
Great story line going on here and I can tell it's just going to get better as the series goes.

2.5 stars...and every star I took off is because of Claire or maybe even Andre when dealing with Claire. She ruined this book for me. I mean...it was almost painful, no, not almost, it was painful. I mean it got to where every time the story shifted back to her I cringed and I was living for those moments with the other warriors.

******I'm going full on spoiler now so I can rant. Read at your own risk.****************

So...there were a lot of things wrong with this one, which really hurt me because I LOVE Andreas--I mean, you can't tell me that you haven't loved him from the jump--his loyalty, his good time manner, just adored him and my heart was so broken for him in the last one, it really killed me so I was really looking forward to this and Claire just...I mean every wrong move the woman could make, she made.
I mean, first, she "called" her "husband" and told him where Andreas was and what he had done and he demands that she stay with him until he sends someone...and she does it. Ooookay. Maybe, maybe I can see that. But then, it becomes crystal clear what her "husband" really thinks of her (as if seeing him only every 6 months for the entire time they've been married wasn't clue enough), he all but tells her that he knew what would happen if she and Andreas were together and he's using her and DOESN'T care about her in the least. She's a tool, a doormat! And then, for some damn reason the woman refuses to let Andreas and the Order know where Roth is...why is this? I mean, remaining loyal to someone that clearly intends to kill you, that's not a virtue, its STUPIDITY. I understand her not wanting anything to happen to Andre, I do, I didn't want anything to happen to him either. So, you know what I would have done? Hm...TOLD HIM EVERYTHING I KNEW and maybe not take time out to go to dinner. I was like *eye roll* and gag me at the same time. And then contacting Roth and trying to make a trade. First, even I knew that shit wouldn't work, come on now, but really, it would have been a noble idea if it made sense. And then all of the sudden after 30 years of being a doormat, and behaving like one earlier in the day she gets all outraged about Andreas forbidding her to join in the "fight". He was right. She's an idiot.

Okay, rant over. Now, having said all of that crap, there were parts of the story I really appreciated. The whole thing with Dragos is progressing, I'm liking Hunter!!! Whoo-hoo I hope his story is good! Kade and Brock, I would like to get a little more of them. It was great to see the other girls (breedmates) again. Sometimes it feels like once that particular story is over we don't get to see the other girls except for the whole "Hi, let me know if I can get you anything." so it was nice to see the girls and a little of their personalities again.
I will continue with the series, but maybe take a short break. I think this was just an off book for me.

I think this one is my favorite so far from this series :)

has the "GD" word in there too many times.

I really loved this one! I have to say, that the past two in this series have certainly been some of my favorites so far. I feel like the action and the whole story lines are getting better. I also have really liked the characters in the past few books as well.

First off, let me say that Andreas' power -- Best. Power. Ever! It's so cool, and it's certainly my favorite talent we've seen in any of the Breedmates or Breed males so far! It's so superhero-esk. It would also be extremely useful in battle if he can control it, which it seems like he is working on at the end of the book.

The action in this book was really awesome and I just kept turning the page to see what would happen next at the end when the final battle came into play. It was really good and I truly didn't expect the trap that Roth had setup for the warriors who came into the underground lab. Pure evil genius!

I liked Claire okay. She wasn't my favorite of the Breedmates so far, but she had her ways and I can't say she made too many stupid choices like some of the previous Breedmates have. She seemed one of the most level headed mates we've seen so far to me. Although, I didn't think it was fair of her to tell Andreas that he had to choose between her and his vengeance. Sure, it might not be healthy. But at the same time, it needed to happen to keep both of them safe.

I was a bit disappointed in how quickly Andreas got over Helena. I know that in the previous books he said he loved her, but couldn't fully give himself to her. But he did show a lot of love to her, and she barely came up in this book. Perhaps it would have been better if we could have been previously made aware of Claire and his long lost love with her. I just think a bit of foreshadowing in these books would go a long way in the books to come. I like it when authors tend to overlap the stories, at least a bit. It seems to make them seem more real. But, oh well.

I can't believe what happened at the end with the Ancient! Wowza, that's gonna cause problems. Normally, I'm sometimes put off by the side stories about the evil doings of the villains in some romance novels. But in these, I think the side story is pretty solid and I'm really interested in what's going to happen with it.

Lastly, I want to mention that I thought it was so cool that Danika was in this one! At first, I recognized the name, but wasn't sure who she was. Then when they reminded us who she was I was like "oh yeah!" So that was a pretty cool treat to see how she's doing now.

Overall, I really liked this one. It's probably one of my favorites in the series and I truly feel like these are getting better and better. I guess I have to come to terms with the fact that the sex scenes just aren't as in depth as some of my other favorite novels. *sigh* But, there were a few in this one that gave me a few chills in the pit of my stomach - in the good way of course!

This was a really good book, I love it how "Lara Adrian" put vengence and old loves into the same story line. Andreas & Roth had, had a fued for a long time and it deepened when Roth killed his Darkhaven. Well in Roth doing that it brought Andreas and Claire back together reigniting (no pun intended) their love, while Andreas seeks revenge and battles his Pyro tendencies, he ends up killing Roth and after a final battle of Andreas coming to terms with his pyrokenesis. Him and Claire get their happy ending YAYYYYYYYYYYYYY. BUT!!!!!! the ancient has escaped "RUH ROH GEORGE!" big trouble is coming.

My least favourite of the series so far. I just didn't feel the love between Andreas and Claire.

Both main characters bored me here. I'm so disappointed.
