This is a hybrid Young Adult /graphic novel. It tells 2 parallel stories, one in prose and one in illustrations. The stories occur approximately 30 years apart and are about 2 girls living in the same area as each other. This was a chilling story about loneliness and bullying. It definitely has a moodiness that will appeal to young girls. :)

An approriatley creepy October read that FLIES by despite it's massive size. I really enjoyed the half text/half art format and would love to read more graphic novels that way. I thought the plot itself was nothing special (a bit predictable, really) but I felt so much sympathy for Mary as a character; she was very well written. This felt like a more YA version of "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" and I think a lot of readers will enjoy that.

That was awesome and spooky as hell! I loved that the book was half pictures/graphic novel and half diary entries, it made it a super quick read and also unputdownable. I didn't want to stop reading because I needed to know what the hell was going on and I loved that. This is a sad story, but it also has this haunted house element that is super creepy and atmospheric.
The illustrations were brilliant and reminded me a lot of Brian Selznick, whom I adore. I hope the author writes more books like this because it was fun. I will be buying myself a copy for my shelf eventually because it deserves a spot on it. If you're looking for something spooky, thrilling, and quick, pick this up!
