Too much slamming and hatred towards her mom, which made me upset, as my mom also recently died.

Great story of family, loss, sacrifice, and protecting those you love. I loved learning more about Korea and how the author shed light on the difficulties of Korean immigrants to America in the 1980s.

This book had real potential, and it fumbled into the ending. The conversation on immigration and being an immigrant in such a diverse country like the U.S. was chefs kiss! Everything else? Either boring or rushed. The ending was so anticlimactic, I almost missed it. It’s one of those books where interesting things almost happen but don’t.

Gave me a new perspective on mother - daughter relationships, especially my relationship with my mother. But it’s also gave a very nuanced look from the daughter perspective, which was a reminder to stay open with my daughter about my life and how my journey has shaped who I am. I would hate for me to leave this Earth and my daughter or my sons, to think of me as a stranger.
