I read this book over the weekend. It was a good read overall, but it was my second time trying to read it after a year break from Colleen Hoover books. I had been reading so many of them that it gave me trouble getting into the story characters and being able to differentiate them. If I hadn’t taken a break I wouldn’t be able to get past the first chapter.
What I like about the book: It is inclusive with the deaf community
at the end, she ends up wanting to learn sign language to be able to communicate better rather than just texting, so it made me like Sydney better because I figured that’s all their communication would consist of, just texting or writing
, it’s honest with its feelings, these are 19 year olds going through friendship and relationship break ups, we forget how dramatic that age is and how one bad thing happens & it’s the end of the world, so I try not to judge and appreciate some sort of understanding of the author about how one feels around that age. The characters were fun to get into and the spicy reads made you blush!
What I didn’t like about the book: it is a typical right person wrong timing book hence the title, but it romanticized cheating
Maggie deserves so much better and I am so relieved she didn’t get end up dying at the end because of her illness. The beginning of the book foreshadows how Sydney ends up in the same type of relationship she was mad about with Hunter and Tori
, it’s love being confused with lust: but what teenage relationship isn’t? Sydney takes one step forward but then goes two steps back with her growth, all for the sake of having a social life and being independent yet is still very dependent-it’s giving toxic behavior and red flags. The book characters go back and forth to what is right or wrong.
In the end: So as long as you are not expecting a mature relationship its good
Ridge has savior syndrome and Sydney is the perfect target, I just don’t see them lasting at the end of the day.

I read this years ago, but I decided to revisit it. I grew up and changed, so I have a different take now than when I was younger. At the beginning of this story, Sydney annoyed the shit out of me. Her hypocrisy was to the max, and she needed therapy sessions to manage her violence. I surely missed these things years ago because I was so naive back then, never realizing that red flags were in my face, and this book had many of them waving. Even if I disliked her in a massive chunk of this story, I was glad she transformed even a little bit.

I understood Ridge, but he was far from innocent like Sydney insisted a million times. He was a grown-ass man, so he knew what was up. He was deaf, not stupid, but yeah, he did a lot of shitty things as well. He couldn't get mad at Hunter because they had similarities.

I wouldn't say I liked that Sydney and Ridge were both flirting, but they got surprised to develop feelings. What?

Maggie, I hope you live a good life.

Warren, you're the best boy ever. Thank you for being supportive and understanding.

I liked the music part so much. The lyrics were intriguing, and I was happy they bonded through music. Overall, a good read.✨🎧

This book was really interesting. I loved the deaf perspective of the whole thing, as it’s not something I’ve really read about before. I thought that the way they fell in love was also very interesting, seeing as the situation they found themselves in was not an ideal romantic scenario. It was cool to see how honest they were to each other about their feelings, because most conflicts in romance novels come from not voicing their feelings, and this did a good job of breaking that mold. I enjoyed it, but it was kind of hard for me with the lyrics and everything because I’m such a not musical kind of person, but the book was good!
