Gorgeous, gorgeous writing. I do feel like the message, while beautiful and touching, especially at the end, was very Feminism 101 and also Medusa 101 but that didn't redact from my reading experience too much. What did redact from it was Burton's insistence on using 'mum' instead of 'mother'. Still, this had me absolutely hooked and I devoured it in a day. Will look into the author's other works.

Very fast and easy read. Didn't know it was YA when I picked it out from the library. I liked this better than Stone Blind since it was actually Medusa telling the story. The ending wasn't what I expected. The whole story felt slow but also rushed. It was not bad but overall not the best.

I have never been a Greek mythology person, but I read this for the Carnegie shortlist and I actually enjoyed it. I liked getting to know Perseus through Medusa's perspective and also learning more about Medusa's lore since I have only ever experienced Medusa as a character through the perspective of Perseus cutting her head off. However, whilst I did enjoy the story and I did feel Medusa does go through good character development, I felt as though the characters did lack some depth, but this could also be due to how short the story is.

I also thought the illustrations really added to the story, but I am unsure if I would have enjoyed it as much without the illustrations. They really heightened the emotions and memories in the story which allowed it to be quite an immersive read. This is my first Jessie Burton and I am intrigued to read her other works. I would recommend this, especially to those who enjoy Greek Mythology!
