A really interesting mix of psychological and supernatural horror and even humour. The witty banter is not what I expected from this kind of book, although it is in keeping with Jackson's other work that I've read. It makes it less outright 'scary' than other books that I've read in the genre but more intriguing. It doesn't quite reach the heights of We Have Always Lived in the Castle but this is well worth checking out.
