Not enough tension build up for me . It’s a shame because I was definitely digging the cult history.

I will start of by saying I love rubyaura ..(for the most part)
I enjoyed this book but I have my issues. Definitely more invested at the beginning with the whole cult thing wish it was more of a focus would’ve made things really interesting. While I did continue to enjoy it it quickly became to feel like it was dragging, it’s less than 400 pages but even then there wasn’t enough plot for it to be this long or well I didn’t need to be that long, oh no dom is bad, Beth is bad, hawk is bad, malin is after aura like we learned this about 100 pages in and that’s the whole plot nothing else happens it didn’t need to drag out the way it did. It drags for the middle 200 so pages and then picks up again in the last 60 pages. The ending is crazy I mean I wasn’t super invested atp I just wanted it to be over but definitely suppose to be emotional and whatnot.
Also had a problem with how aura acted clueless about hawk and beth.. not completely clueless I guess because she did realise that something was off but she didn’t make any connections that were definitely obvious especially since she pointed out why they were obvious but she herself never caught onto it. Ruby too with dom there was obvious clues in there but somehow they didn’t figure it out.
The writing.. wasn’t bad or mediocre really, rather basic and straightforward which is fine because I usually read a dark romance to escape the fancy writing and the headaches but it also became bland and repetitive the words “she grabbed my neck” “she put her hand in my hair” “she was flush against me” took up about half of the book. Leading on from this their intimacy was included at the most random and awkward times. There were a few noticeable grammatical errors too.
While the main couple is toxic on purpose they weren’t toxic to a point I was put off by until aura hit ruby.. I loved their dynamic and whatnot up until that point it kinda threw me off esp later on when there was a more intense scene.
I realised I just listed a bunch of everything wrong with the book and yet rated it 3 stars it was entertaining enough ruby and aura have personalities you can invest in, the anticipation of the truths being revealed drives the story.

"We're making music in what's forbidden. Taking these preconceived molds and shattering them to pieces. F*ck forbidden, and F*ck taboo. We'll take all of it and make it ours."
This book is delightfully dark and erotically spicy. I love when I can feel the magnetic attraction between two characters. These two have a pull that you can't seem to stay away from. I suppose they have a vibe that is all their own making. This book had an interesting plot, was full of action, and had an aura about it that I just couldn't seem to escape from. The audiobook was good as well!
This is a dark FF romance, so please check your trigger warnings.

As a woman loving woman I was concerned for how they portrayed the characters! She did an amazing job with the inner battle of women loving women. To the people who say this isn’t dark they are wrong. This isn’t your cookie cutter, dream boat fantasy they think it is. Drugs, sex, murder... it’s all there. Highly highly recommend this book but it’s not for everyone. For the people who’s triggers are sexual abuse, be aware getting this book.

Now when I say this book was dark, holy hell it was dark DARK. I honestly had to take a few breaks because it just kept getting worse for my girls Ruby and Aura.
But it was worth it in the end.
Ruby and Auras connection is literally electric. And although it was insta-love to an extent, it didn’t feel like it because you could understand why they were so drawn to each other, whereas most of the time with insta-love you don’t. They just had a way of bringing out the good, the bad and the ugly in each other that made my heart hurt in the best way. The sacrifices they were willing to make for each other HURT! Also when I tell you the smut in this book is insane…like holy shit.
All in all…read this book.

2? 2.5?
• pedofilia
• culto religioso/sacrificio humano
