What a great introduction to the world of Punpun! Very much excited to continue onto the next omnibus! I found Punpun to be a very relatable character! I love his character, yet I also found him frustrating to read at times haha. He's very much thinking about himself, and is very shy and indecisive. The other characters are good too, but for sure, the focus is on Punpun himself.

I also like the art in this manga. It is very well detailed and there's a decent amount of mixing in the art, from the ugly and absurd faces of some characters, to the very realistic. Of course, as can see from the title, Punpun and his family members are portrayed as birds, and I'm curious to see if there's any meanings behind it.

All in all, very excited to continue the series!

A cruel and depressing coming of age story following a young boy through his childhood and adulthood. A good read if you can watch someone suffer

This was an interesting read. I had no idea what was going on or where anything was going. I know lots of people love it and I can see why, however this wasn't my favourite and I found the humour and plot a bit too crude for my liking.

I think I will continue with the rest of the series because I am interested to see where it all goes.

EDIT: I got spoiled for the end of this series and have decided I'll no longer be continuing it๐Ÿ˜…

4/10. I love the art in this - a lot of the characters are depicted as quite creepy or have over exaggerated expressions which then make any panel of Punpun more amusing. There are also panels which are so well drawn and absolutely beautiful so against the storyline and rest of the artwork, they really stand out.

I did want to like this more than I did. I finished it in one sitting because it was a quick read but also because I was waiting for it to get better. It tells the story of a young boy navigating puberty and a bad home life but it just felt like it just missed being profound or missed being really funny (I think if it leaned into either of these feelings a bit more I would have had a more enjoyable reading experience).

From reading other reviews I was surprised that I didn't like this as much as I wanted to and unfortunately I don't think I will be picking up the next volume any time soon.
