I don’t quite know how I feel about this book. I had a hard time getting into it and it was a very slow go for me. It’s not that it’s a bad story, but I just didn’t get as invested as I hoped. I don’t know what kept me from enjoying it as much as I expected. Maybe it just wasn’t the right time for me to read it?

I do enjoy Durham’s writing style. It’s a bit more literary than I expected.

I cared about Caroline and Mark, but Eamon was the only character I really felt invested in. That said, the revelation about him was not a surprise for me. There were signs.

For a while I sort of cared about Runny and Flackwell, but that didn’t last.

One of the things I enjoyed the most is how Durham created the lore about the book, the author, the island . . . all of it.

The ending went on for a little too long but the concept kept me going

I picked up this book having no idea what it was about because our book club is reading it. And... well. I was NOT expecting that. I really enjoyed it overall, despite my wild dreams after having read it. It is definitely something different for me, and I loved that. I also really enjoyed the writing and will look for more books by this author.

This novel is very much Watership Down meets the Most Dangerous game. I actually really enjoyed the characters as a whole and really enjoyed this book. I thought it was going to be more violent, or spooky than it was after I actually started it -- but that just may be what I get for not reading the book synopsis before beginning the novel.

Runnymeade was really relatable and I could vibe with Phineas - I think it would have been really cool to get more background on where they came from and what exactly they were. That would have been really nice. Overall though - I do recommend this book!

It was good but brutal. Never ending violence in graphic detail which I wasn’t excepting.

Completely refreshing read, not all like what I was expecting. Carries elements of The Hunger Games, in a sense but still very different.
