Wow. If I had only had a mentor or even a friend like Evans fifteen years ago, maybe I wouldn't have completely walked away from the Church. She was a true woman of valor and arguably one of the most important Christian scholars of our time.

There was nothing particularly revolutionary in this book; rather, Rachel Held Evans exposes the heart of Scripture with her great sense of humor and powerful writing. I laughed, I was encouraged, I was comforted!

I highly recommend this book. Eshet chayil!

There are moments of genuine insight but as a whole I find this more self-absorbed than revealing.

I love REH’s books and the way she openly grapples with the complexity of faith, the interpretation and application of the Bible and biblical principles, and the realities of being a Christian woman in today’s world. They have made me feel more confident about my own faith, doubts and all.

Through this book, I learned about several women from the Bible that, despite my years of Christian private school education and church-going, I had never once heard of (and perhaps herein lies a significant part of the problem…).

I love the way in which her literal interpretations of biblical womanhood manifest as transformation of the mind and spirit for both her and her husband. The passage at the end, where she performs the Tashlich and finds forgiveness, is powerful, as is the part where she talks about finding in the Bible whatever it is that you’re looking for. The fact is that the thing you are looking for and your reason for seeking it out reveal as much as the text itself will.

For content, this gets five stars but in terms of prose, just three—so I’m rounding it out at a four!

Interesting idea and well written. Rachel has a great sense of humour and she learns some important facets of wisdom during the year.

This was an incredibly eye opening book into the struggles women face in pursuit of biblical womanhood. It was recommended to me by a friend who said it revolutionized her faith and pulled her out of a toxic worship environment. While I didn't have the same take away as she did, as this is never something I've experienced, I can absolutely see why she and so many other women in faith have found power in it.

My daughter gifted me this book. At first, after looking at the title and reading the blurb, you might be bit uncertain as to whether this book is ultra-conservative or ultra-liberal, but I assure you it's neither. Rather this book provides an eye opening look at how women are viewed - both in the Bible and by those who follow it. Rachel Held Evans goes on an adventure to live out scripture that pertains to women for one year. As she takes on each goal for the month, she provides deep insight into why the commandment or verses were written about women. Knowing the cultural setting as well as looking into the Hebrew/Greek meaning of text provides the insight the church needs into who women are called to be.

Each chapter of this book brought me closer to God and deeper in my knowledge of what a woman of valor truly is. I highly recommend this book for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of how God views women, what scripture says about women and how we are all one in Christ Jesus.

Thank you, Rachel Held Evans, for going through the experiment because as I read your words, I grew deeper in my faith and who I am, as well.

Loved it!
