A skimmed some of the anecdotes, but Rachel's observations on how we interpret the Bible are among the most affirming I've ever read. She had a big heart and always earnestly reached for truth, wherever that led her. Looking forward to reading a couple of her other books, too.

It was an interesting read that was rather uplifting, however I definitely didn't like how she would downplay the classic traditions of the bible. However it was interesting to read about some of the lesser known women stories. I guess my caution is this, as a person who was raised in a conservative church I am very familiar with women's roles in the bible (our church sticks pretty close to the biblical role of womanhood) amd I really didn't like the liberal-ness of the work.

Sometimes stuck in the weeds (Do I need to play by play of making bread?), often cherry-picking from various religious traditions in a way that you could argue compromises her whole purpose. But if on the whole, very thoughtful and positive. She calls out without feeling too critical, bears witness without being too preachy, inspires and encourages without being too self-important. I like Rachel Held Evans's approach of treating your faith as something to practice and interrogate. It's the anniversary of her death today, and I'm struck by how the world really is worse off without more voices like hers in the world.

DID NOT FINISH: 40%

I felt bored… felt like reading an elongated blog post. I just think that if I want to read this style I would rather read about a more interesting topic for myself.
