Interesting and thought-provoking, if occasionally a bit too much with the forced jocularity.

This book definitely exceeded my expectations. Not only is it an interesting story, humorously and humbly told by Evans, it contains such informative and genuine thoughts, insights, and observations on the Bible, evangelical Christianity, Judaic roots in Christianity, and what womanhood can and should look like (Spoiler alert: it’s a pretty loose and inspiring definition) Would highly recommended to readers from all walks of faith, all genders, and all ages.

Was going to give this book 3 stars, but after reading the other reviews and seeing how much this pissed off conservative Christians, decided to bump it up. This book isn't perfect, but the objectionable bits were treated with sensitivity. I love RHE and I'm grateful for her writing.

I really liked the book. Evans has such a likable, ready to read, funny, and engaging writing style that I could almost convince myself it was a fiction book. (Which in my opinion is the mark of a great non fiction book since I generally hate anything that reminds me of a textbook.) I don't understand the criticism that this book is making fun of the bible and biblical ideas. I think she makes a good, mostly well research case that what she disagrees with and speaks fairly tongue and cheek about is the conservative notion of women as submissive housewives and that is the only way for women to be biblical and follow Jesus. I will admit that some of what she did was extreme and in the interest of a good story but I think that gets to the heart of the book. She set out to tell a good story (which she does very successfully) and not to degrade anyone's beliefs or practices. I think it's a great book for women to read and I have bought several for my friends. Just keep in mind that it's one woman telling a story and not gospel truths.

How wonderful a year this was for her! I'm sorry she didn't get many more. But I'm glad to have been able to share it by reading this book.

I enjoyed this! It's easy to set down and pick up whenever, which can be both good and bad. But I enjoyed the writing. My favorite parts of this were probably the pieces on Biblical interpretation as well as the final chapter on (among other things) the Jewish New Year. Reading this in December, it gave me some ideas of things to ponder as I put 2020 to rest and think ahead to 2021.

I'm sad there won't be any new RHE books - I think hers is a voice we are missing these days. Wish I had discovered her sooner.
