It was very dark. There is a lot talked about in this book and none of it is happy. However, it was well written and I did enjoy it but I wouldn’t recommend to everyone.

Really captivating play, with characters you feel a multitude of emotions for from empathy, sadness, disgust, hatred, pity, happiness. I absolutely loved it though I found I got the most out of it once I started thinking about the themes within it rather than just reading it for plot.

There is a reason this play is considered a classic. In Williams's play there are no heros or villains. There are only people who are acting in response to their circumstances. In the end, your heart feels for everyone as each character has hurt another and been hurt by another. That is the power of this work, the characters feel so real because in my reality no one is perfect and we have all hurt each other in different ways.

I was surprised by how much I ended up loving this play. It's a really interesting character study about the effects of racism and class (among other things) on America that has me constantly returning to spot more details - symbolism, foreshadowing, and so so much double-speak - that I hadn't realized the first time I read it, so my copy is steadily being filled with notes and highlights each time I revisit it.
