I read this for school and I was okay. i feel like Blanche is a character that will stay with me, but the play is forgettable besides that. I don’t think this is a play would read in my own. And I don’t think I’ll read anything else by this author. It was fine, just dated and not my style.

as someone who enjoys dark themes in writing and the absolute rottenness of humans being brought to light, this play certainly is all about it. oh it sure is. i dont recall the last time i felt so heavy after reading a play but my god! this is not for the faint of heart. it's just. oh my god. stanley is so... oh my god, i hate him so much but at the same time i feel the same fear as blanche and stella probably do around him how can a fictional character encompass this archetype of men so well. i dont know how to explain it but it feels. so real. absolutely throws you in for a loop, knots your stomach and makes you want to curl up in a hole and hug yourself so tight. maybe im being dramatic. maybe this is what i get for writing so much angst.

anyways as a play, absolutely banger. love the characterization, the use of music and the reveal of the polka tune at the end??? title embodies this play so well. i can just visualize this car speeding down the streets, these characters impulsively running head first into tragedy knowing they're going to crash. my god. wow.

It was very dark. There is a lot talked about in this book and none of it is happy. However, it was well written and I did enjoy it but I wouldn’t recommend to everyone.

First play. Very engaging, finished it in one go. I felt pity for Blanche, but also for Stella. Beautifully written,  especially the description of the settings and the subtle emotions of the characters. One can clearly get a vivid picture of every scene, like watching it unfold on a theater stage.

This is part of my goal to catch up with what the other schools around me read when my London school insisted on following the Welsh exam board because my teacher was obsessed with Ted Hughes. I want to see this live I think it would be really good sonically/visually. I love a play with crazy detailed/specific stage directions because you have to imagine how that would possibly be shown and it's fun. I can see why people study this in school.
