I really enjoyed reading this screenplay, something I cannot say of other literary high school texts.
Admittedly I idolised Blanche Dubois - not helped by my fascination of vivienne leigh and all things Hollywood glamour between 2010-2012 - and that made me blind to many of her failings, however, I was enraged at the sexual assault and slut shaming that was perpetuated throughout, whilst Blanche is an unreliable narrator she is a vulnerable character that is taken advantage of and discarded.
Whilst I think Tennesse Williams framed most of his female characters within the madonna/whore archetype, his female characters are always vastly more interesting and complex and as such enamoures the reader to those characters viewing them in a sympathetic light, at least I did anyway.
