At no point did this book go in an expected direction. I thought I knew how it would end and I was wrong several times and to be honest that impressed me.

That said, D was a terrible heroine. She talked on and on about "women's lib" only to mostly focus on the work she did to support a man. And she was shrill when she could have been (and should have been) tactful.

Overall, though, quite enjoyable.

Really loved this story and I think it held up pretty well for being written in the 80s. I think it could have benefited from being a bit shorter and you reducing the head hopping. But it was really interesting to see both of their journeys to different times, and I loved seeing Douglass build her confidence and take charge of her life.

A beautiful story of honour and love that spans centuries. Nicholas is Dougless’ knight in shining armour. Her tears bring him to her, he hears her in his head.

In 1988 in England, Dougless shows Nicholas the modern world, initially believing he’s an actor or a man with amnesia. But, as they visit historical sites that were his homes in the sixteenth century, he tells her how things really were, and not how they’re portrayed on guided tours. He’s offended that his intelligence and architectural skills have been forgotten.

Dougless begins to believe he’s from the past, and their bond grows into love. Nicholas learns he was to be executed in 1564 due to being betrayed by someone, and their research uncovers who is at the root of it. Or so they think.

She doesn’t want him to go, and he decides to stay , but eventually, he is taken back. She’s devastated, since no trace of him is left behind. Except, a note he wrote to her. That allows her to go to his time, but he doesn’t remember her, or rather, doesn’t want to.

She’s learned there was more to his execution, and she wants to warn him about his soon-to-be wife, but he won’t listen. She manages to save Nicholas’ brother, and knows things she shouldn’t.

Again, they fall in love, and she agrees to stay, but he feels he must marry the woman who will betray him. This time, Dougless fades to the future, and again, grieves him.

They’ve managed to change history, but lost each other. However, he’s followed his promises to her, and he’s known in the present as a brilliant scholar and architect. The circle is complete when their two souls meet again.

Lots of fun with each of them discovering the other’s world, great drama with his execution threat, and sweet, deep love that binds them through time.

It just can't hold up to a comparison with Outlander.

The ending made up for the crying and stupidity of the FMC.
