Parenting From The Inside Out was better...reading that before this set the experience of this one up for disappointment. Science and scientific studies are not mentioned or credited in the author's recommendations...this reads more as generic parenting advice from a singular person (of which there are millions of books) than a break down of what is going on psychologically and developmentally. This is fluffier, not as detailed or helpful. It doesn't dig in deep and feels rather superficial on the topic.

Why should I care how this one author "feels" people should be parenting? The approach the author takes can set readers up to feel shamed, of which there are many the reviews reporting. I didn't take any of it personally (and the author does try to address throughout that nobody is perfect) but I can see how the approach and tone can be interpreted as shameful. I think it could have been avoided by a less personal, more factual approach.

I did like the section on emotions and communicating them, that part was particularly helpful for me. But everything else felt like cliff notes of Parenting From The Inside Out.
