outstanding! i've enjoyed all of the books i've read from this author, but this one is a cut above. an amazingly powerful story and the storytelling is first rate.

I won a copy of this on Goodreads. Set in the late eighties in Rhode Island a war starts between the Irish and the Italians over a beautiful woman. This is a very fast paced beginning of a new crime series. I look forward to the next book.

i personally wouldn’t read this genre, but as i am a huge austin butler fan, and he will be portraying danny ryan in the film adaptation, i gave it a go & actually enjoyed it!

Mildly entertaining, not much depth. Good distraction from a depressing election night.
challenging dark emotional tense fast-paced

Had high hopes after blitzing Winslow's Cartel trilogy, but this is a markedly inferior book that has the author putting out a novel that belongs in an airport lounge.

The biggest thing is the prose. While the Cartel books were not stylistic masterpieces, they were taut and readable. Here, Winslow is using a more bloated style that doesn't play to his strengths. The characters are also uninteresting, with most of them being thin ethnic stereotypes

That all being said, it's a novel that does have entertaining elements, and it does move from locale to locale well. It's just that it is the definition of an airport novel. Won't be finishing the trilogy.
