Great mob story with all the family family thrown in.
This is my first mafia book. It was actually really good. I also think the narrator was amazing. He performed the Catholic Irish Bostonian accent really well.

I have no prior experience reading Don Winslow. The only reason I read this is because I attended a discussion/signing for it when it was released. It sounded interesting at the time.
So was it interesting? Well, sort of. The book is split up into 3 parts. I was really hooked during Part 1. The storyline had me very intrigued which I didn't expect. Then comes Part 2, and while I'm still enjoying the story for the most part, I'm starting to become overwhelmed by the amount of characters introduced and how all their names are similar and stereotypical "mob" names. Then Part 3 comes around which starts off VERY rocky, but ends on an interesting enough note that I felt relatively satisfied.
I feel like 3 is a little too harsh for this book, and since Goodreads doesn't have halves, I just settle for 4 stars, even though it's definitely a solid 3.5 for me. I will say though, the audiobook narrator was fantastic, so I don't mind giving it that extra half star just for that.
It remains to be seen whether or not I'll read the rest of this trilogy, because honestly I kinda like the ending as is. But at least this book wasn't a waste of time. I just wish it was a little more cohesive. And give me a family tree!!
