The first in a retelling of the Iliad through the lens of New England Gangs. The story starts with members of the Irish mob and Winslow demonstrates that these gangsters are all people with conflicting opinions on what they are needing to do to survive. From the beginning you can feel the tension mount as the Irish and Italian mobs start to come to blows with one another. Fast paced action that makes you feel both sympathy and disgust for the warring factions of Providence, Rhode Island. Something romantic in Winslow’s depictions of gang violence, betrayal and settling vendettas; truly a master in his craft. Amid the tit for tat gang killings, Winslow gives us characters who are living with their own personal tragedies and just doing what they can to keep their heads above water. A wonderful tragedy which truly depicts the journey that the hero has to take to become more.
