Don Winslow knows his shit. And this book was awesome. I was sad when it was finished. Fast read, great characters, excellent story, pretty much perfect.

Danny is the classic good guy who for social and family reasons finds himself fighting a war that is not his own, and who turns out to be all too good at it. Around him, characters from the Irish and Italian underworld, mafia attitudes, intimidation and finally drugs. Acting as a fuse to the deflagration, a too beautiful woman who ends up in the wrong place, without really having the tools to understand the environment she has ended up in. The novel has the great defect of a work conceived to open a series, i.e. it remains suspended in the finale, but apart from that, when it comes to describing the violent American province, with its grotesque and terrible characters, as always Winslow's pen is masterful.

A fun read. Irish mafia with a reluctant son joining in a war and becoming the boss slowly. Will be interested to read more.
