this collection of voices and experiences was so much more than what i expected. hard and crude, but so filled with hope and growth. its an important book, it gives voice to the lives of people that, under the patriarchal structure, would normally go ignored. its riddled with paradoxes and the reader does not rid itself of them: how to go about your day after reading this? where do you put this knowledge? how do you keep on living knowing what this essays have told you? and yet i would rather live in this scenario, than to ask the authors to be silent. i hope that everyone that has gone through an experience like the ones described in the book sees that there is a future for them, that not everything was taken again from them in that moment, that they are still here and still able to make something beautiful with their lives.

The range of essays was both amazing and sad. Roxane Gay did a great job with this book because it shows so many angles and aspects of rape culture, from the systemic to personal and how the systemic becomes personal.

It was extremely difficult to listen to. Some of the stories challenged my own biases and internalized victim blaming which I needed to be challenged. Some of the stories were for me and all of the stories were for the authors.

This book allowed me to reflect on my own experiences, behaviors, and trauma and understand myself a bit more. That wasn't the goal, but it speaks to how good this book is that I was reflecting on myself in a healthy way, which doesn't happen often when this topic comes up.

It was worth the read. I read it fairly quickly because I couldn't let the book sit open in my mind, which worked out for me but could easily get overwhelming.

The audio quality was kinda bad so it didn't make for smooth listening or do the content justice. I wasn't rushing back to it and decided to return the library loan early so hopefully another reader can have a better experience

This is an emotional journey of the ripple effects of sexual assault. It is both healing and triggering. Some essays reached me deeper than others but they were all reflective and shine a light on the culture we have that allows these sexual assaults to continue.
