This felt like conservative propaganda disguised as romcom. There was a tone. *side eyeing book*

This book was wrong in so many, many ways. Firstly, the story did not fit Nora’s character in past books and felt really judgey. Like it had to prove how wrong women like Nora are for not wanting the white picket fence, suburban life with babies. They must have daddy issues, they must not have met the right guy, they must be scarred by a past relationship etc etc.

and they must *of course* change their minds in the end

Couple that with the cringe-worthy, objectification of her body when we are in the hero’s pov, I just did not enjoy myself here. And it was sooo long, there’s two third act break ups, fucking two .

And lastly, this gave me the ick

the first time they have sex it’s up against the wall of his daughter’s middle school, while they are chaperoning her dance. She, all her friends, parents and several teachers are inside. What kind of dad takes a gross risk like this? Can you imagine how she’d feel if they were caught? Total shit parent move. You can’t think with your dick when you’re the sole parent, you just can’t.

I’ve noticed this before, but this book made it very obvious that Ms. Kingsley is not for me anymore. She’s dated and ‘traditional’ and her sensibilities don’t align with my own. She needs to watch the Barbie movie on repeat and join us in 2023.

My highlights are crazy and speak for themselves. I don’t want to invest anymore time with this.

I really loved this series. It's all so well written and I really wanted to be friends with all the girls in it. I feel like normally with series authors tend to make it too formalistic and while I guess there was a formula to how this series went, I felt like Claire Kingsley did a good job of making each book it's own and the plot not too predictable. I also really like how she set up the plot of the next book in small ways - like how she had Nora say something along the lines of the perfect man for Sophie will be the one who catches her whenever she falls and then she had Cox literally catch her when she was escaping from the hotel room.

I will definitely be checking out her other books.
