slow-paced

-incredibly fun too read, could not put it down, i wanted the mystery to be solved
-until like the 85% mark where my suspicions have been confirmed and everything started to get too convoluted
-it was drawn out but then everything happened way too quickly?
-nora was a menace and a horrible person, i wish jess realized it. i loved the characterization of her and the way at first i just found some of her view problematic like her obsessive views on motherhood but then we uncover how she's a gaslighting manipulator... seeing her from polly's view was the best part of the novel and the greatest mystery. unfortunately, it did not go anywhere because jess never realized the role nora played in their relationship. like the fact that nore convinced polly that she tried to kill her own child? that's a next level of unhinged evil and she was never called out for it. which would have been fine but every other mystery and wrongdoing is spelled out and the fact that this was never adressed feels like the author agreed with nora to an extent when in reality, she stole two babies.
-thr book within a book format was horrible and a very unsatisfying way to reveal most of the answers. like did jess have to work for it at all?
-anyways, fun read but it kinda falls apart when i want to think about it too deeply
