Good plot, gruesome gore, suspenseful action, sizzling sexual tension, messy bisexual protagonist, a dash of humor throughout. I’m in love.

Extremely heavy on the romance subplot to the point that it sometimes feels like the primary plot, so ymmv depending on what you want here.

I do wish the world was sketched out more clearly because I still feel a little lost with references to the various fantasy nations and their respective cultures, but that was a minor detraction. Excessive swearing also sometimes felt jarring.

My first read for the 2024 Trans Rights Readathon!

I really enjoyed this book! I love these characters so much especially Remy. Remy is a such a wonderful character I was instantly attached to him. His struggles with his past, feeling as though he owes his father everything, the way he feels that no one loves him without needing something from him in return. My heart hurt for him immensely.

The only reason I’m not giving this book 5 stars is because of Zidan and Remys back and forth. How many times were really necessary to try and put something between them? I get it, in a way, it benefited Zidan and Remys characters to show some of their biggest flaws but at the same time it was kinda frustrating to watch it happen multiple times.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and I cannot wait to read the sequel!

This was actually better than what I expected.

Had the beginning of this book been a little more fast-paced, I could easily see myself giving it a higher rating than a 4 but oh well. I was not expecting the "smut" in this story, but it wasn't tasteless smut, so I'll take it.

I liked the evolution of the characters from the beginning of the book until the end. I know a lot of people don't like the sequel to this, and I was a bit nervous going into it in case the story ended on a major cliffhanger. However, even though this is the first in a series (?), I feel like this book can be read as a stand-alone and based on the mixed reviews that the sequel received I don't see myself continuing on with these characters.

I am definitely open to reading more from this author as I really enjoyed the writing style.

(re-read on audio) [ The audio narration was ok, not a ton of differentiation between the main characters when speaking which sometimes made it hard to follow]

WE NEED MORE BOOKS WITH THROUPLES!!!
