What a unique and rich fantasy novel! Adventurous prose and intriguing characters. You can tell the author was heavily influenced by a variety of fantasy media and mythology (like Horizon Zero Dawn). But despite it feeling familiar, it remained unique.
It comprised of a lot of POV changes and at times that was hard to follow…but
Other than that I am excited to see where the story goes because this book definitely set itself as the build up for the next one.
Thank you to NetGalley and Saga Press for the digital galley in exchange for my honest review!

"Our whole history is a lie. Who we are. What the greybloods are. What our world is. All of it."
This epic fantasy has a well crafted world-building that feels vast, and the magic system is both intriguing and unique. Early on, the world reminded me of Horizon Zero Dawn, and while the author clearly draws from other media too, everything still feels unique and original.
The characters are my biggest issue with this book. There are a lot of POVs, and for me, that made it harder to connect with any one of them. Some characters (Temi!!) disappear for long stretches, making it harder to stay invested.
However, things definitely pick up around the 70% mark, when things start clicking and making more sense. It's perhaps a bit too late into the book, but it definitely gets very interesting, and makes it clear that the author poured a lot of thought and effort into creating this world and its lore.
By the end, we’re left with more questions than answers, this book clearly serves as a setup for the sequel. The epilogues, though, really steal the show, they help spark curiosity for what's next, and possibly, for different POVs. I just really hope there’s a recap at the beginning of the next book because there are a lot of details I’ll likely need help remembering without a full reread.

I’m no stranger to high fantasy but this story was so hard for me to follow. Don’t get me wrong, I fully enjoyed the whole concept & am interested in continuing but I do feel like I’ll have to do a re-read before the second, whenever it comes out.
