excellent installment in the warrior chronicles, following Uhtred north in vain hope to reclaim his birthright. But finds himself sworn to a slave king and then betrayed!
brilliant addition to the series and Uhtred really grows as a character, you can't help but like the guy and urge him on.

Excellent continuation of the series. The best to date, actually, and leaves me primed for #4. Solid book, solid series and is living up to the hype! Solid 4 stars!!

I initially "read" this as an audio book (narrated by the amazing Richard Armitage) and was so captivated that I had to read the hard copy, too.

It's a rolicking good adventure story full of blood, gore, honor, love, betrayal and just desserts. "Fate is inexorable." Or is it?

Probably my favourite instalment in the series so far. The pace is great, the writing is full of emotion and environment and the characters are believable.

Another solid entry in the series, but I felt like the stakes were a bit lower in this novel after the epic Danish battles in the first two novels as Alfred takes more of a backseat.

It's more of the satisfying same with the 3rd book in this series. Uthred Ragnarson goes on adventures, wins a lot and loses some, gets sold into slavery and thus goes on a tour of the known world to the Vikings of the 9th century, and finally vanquishes his enemies. Nothing too bold or complex, but it's well-written and satisfying as both an adventure yarn and a look into the early-Medieval world it is set in.
