This book was really good and it was a cute book! But the ending was not good it left me questioning the book and what happened it did not have closure in the end.
fast-paced
Maddie you have my heart.
I cried, I laughed, I worried, I remained sad for the bullying, I was proud for the becoming yourself part.
This book was a roller-coaster for me but in a very very delightful way!!! An inspiring story reminding us to be ourselves without fear. We need a little weirdness in our lives.

This is another must read. Based on a true story. I fell in love with Maddie and her sweet family.
Eh. A quick read especially because I skimmed all the parts where Maddie was imagining different scenarios. I could not shake the feeling that 12-year olds don't behave the way she does. The book was cloyingly sweet for me and I found the bully character very one-dimensional. There was too much jammed into the plot and I found Maddie annoying and immature. Nothing special.

Absolutely beautiful. Also listened to the BCD read by Shelly Brown, which was absolutely pitch perfect. I couldn't imagine anyone reading this book better. We experience life with Maddie as she navigates 6th grade, family life, Shakespeare and a terrifying medical condition. We cringe when Maddie doesn't stand up for herself or her friends, and rejoice as she does. I love it when the author doesn't just give us a bully, but parts the curtain revealing why the bully might be acting out.
I read this at the encouragement of my 10 year old who checked it out at her school. I like to keep up with what she is reading and if she asks me to read something I make a point to do so! This was a good read. Even though the topic is serious it is written well and in a way that kids can understand and relate to. The characters were relatable and appealing and the story was told in a way that keeps the reader engaged no matter that age.
The story is based on the true story of the author’s daughter, Maddie. Maddie is a happy sixth grader who loves wearing fuzzy colored mustaches to make her friends laugh. After she wins the coveted part of Juliet, in the school play she is diagnosed with a brain tumor. Will she be better in time to perform?
The book is light in tone, but that doesn’t take away from the seriousness of it’s message. Maddie not only deals with the tumor and its consequences in a positive manner, but also grows up in the process as she learns how strong she can be. The book explains about the tumor, the surgery necessary and even the risks involved very well. It does this in a way that is honest, but not scary. The book is about more than just the brain tumor and balances the rest of the story well. It is emotional and uplifting. Recommended for grades 5 and up.
