Babs Tarr upped her game for her creator-owned title; *Motor Crush* depicts a beautifully drawn and colored futuristic west coast where tricked out rides and motor racing are lauded sports events. Dom, our heroine, her father, and her ex-girlfriend find themselves entangled in several thrilling plots. The draw here is predominantly the art because all of the story elements, while well-crafted, held fast to comfortable tropes for their structural integrity, making everything good, but somewhat predictable even if the specifics of every twist couldn't be guessed due to setting-specific entities and mechanics.
Oh, wow, this was so much fun! Racing, chase scenes, ~mysterious~ pasts, adorable mechanic girlfriends. It's all here. Volume 2 is totally going to start with a bang after that twisty ending, it's going to be greattt!
I cannot emphasize enough how much I enjoyed Motor Crush. The art, the writing, everything is amazing.

This was a phenomenal beginning to a series. The plot is totally engaging. There are themes of family and friendship as well as interesting relationship dynamics. I am obsessed! There were some parts that were a little difficult to follow, which knocked it down a bit, but the majority of it is nothing but amazing.

The art in this is stellar
WOW this was great. i am absolutely hooked. not only is the art stunning, but the characters and story are just as great. im hoping the other volumes hold up, because i am totally invested!

I loved so many things about it!
Domino Swift is a black lesbian. She's a badass. She's cocky. She races for fame and cash. And then she races again - to get a narcotic for machines known as Crash. Though the way she uses it differs from the standard significantly.
This is tied to a question Dom tries to find an answer to: who is she?? And, damn, I would like to find out as well.
The pacing is amazing! The story moves fast and we are held by the suspense at all times. Every turn, and there are some crazy turns, feels realistic within the story. There's nothing pulled out of thin air.
I'm a sucker for futuristic stories where the world is bright and colourful! So, I'm probably totally biased on this one but I love the worldbuilding. What can I say? I'm just tired of dystopias everywhere you look - give me girls with bright coloured hair and funny looking buildings instead!
And when we're on bright colours - the art is so pretty! Big part of the stoty takes place during night races and yet when I think of the art in this comic I think of bright colours.
There were some great moments betweet Dom and her dad. I love their relationship. They love each other and support each other. Even when they quarrel. There's also Dom's ex-girlfriend - Lola. They still have some issues to solve but they're both clearly not over it. Dom values both of those relationships deeply but how her issues with Crush and looking for answers will affect them?

That was really fun and super engaging! Domino Swift is a kickass, interesting character with a mysterious past I'm dying to know more about. I'll definitely be picking up the next volume!
Diversity notes: Domino is a black lesbian, her father is also black and an amputee, and Domino's ex-girlfriend is a major character.
