Deleted by Ruth Mitchell is a fantastic futuristic YA sci-fi story that whisks us to a possible future and gives us glimpse of what could be. There we meet Lucy and Marco, and get swept up on an adventure where tech addiction is gripping the planet, and how she discovers that it is now possible to delete another person’s memory, and rewrite their history. She ends up in a cat and mouse game in a race against time, and memory- to outwit and outplay a memory hacker who has her in his sights. Who will win out in the end? This is well worth the read to find out.
Even though this is a Young Adult novel, it can be enjoyed by all ages from young teens through to the vintage years. It has a bit of a techno-thriller feel to it, that is full of mystery, drama, romance, danger, humour, and superb world building. It is a thought-provoking, highly imaginative, and wonderfully original read.
Ruth Mitchell paints a fascinating, and entirely plausible future picture that intrigued me from start to finish. I read it in one sitting, as I didn’t want to put it down. There were times that the story was a little predictable, but that didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the story- and there were enough twists and dramatic developments to keep me turning he page to find out what would happen next.
Deleted is my first read by Ruth Mitchell, and I am happy to say that it definitely won’t be the last! This appears to be her debut novel, so I am looking forward to seeing what else she can/will do.
Looking forward to more!

Thank you, Ruth Mitchell!

Deleted is a great science fiction novel by Ruth Mitchell. This is a genre that I don’t normally read but for some reason was attracted by the blurb. It did take me a little bit to get into the book but that’s just because it’s different from what I’m used to reading. Once I got into the story I was hooked and couldn’t wait to find out how the story panned out.
Set in the 2040’s this book is about being able to read, manipulate and erase people’s memories. It’s very futuristic and if this is the future we face in just over 20 years, I really don’t want to be part of it.
Student Lucy Campbell has a crush on Grad student and wonderkid Marco Han. A chance meeting between them triggers the start of a budding relationship. A relationship that is fraught with danger and adventure. Lucy is being sought out by strange character Nick who we know very little about. She’s sure he wants to erase her memories.
Lucy and Marco along with members of both their families take the reader on a great adventure that will have you on the edge of your seat at times. Once hooked, I did not want to put this book down, even taking it to work to read on my lunchbreak.
If you’ve never given science fiction a go, this would be a great place to start.

Ok this book was a complete surprise to me. I started out being totally fascinated with the synopsis and decided to give it a try. I don't normally read this genre so I wasn't sure what to expect. I started it and as usual with this genre I got totally lost. I almost gave up but this is when reviews are so important, I read many of them and realized I needed to go back and try again. I had to be missing something. I am so so thankful I did.

I will say you don't want any distractions while reading, it really does take focus to keep up with everything that is going on. Once I started again I was completely hooked and then could not put it down. I love how this was left wide open to a possible next book and truly hope that happens.

I was confused at the end because I dont think Ive ever in reading a book hated someone so much then ending up with them being one of my favorite characters and really hope that's who gets the next book. I think that one would be a ton of fun especially how this one ended.

Grab this book!! It was awesome, do not give up, if you lose it, go back I am so glad I chose to do that!!

Deleted by Ruth Mitchell is a YA sci-fi story with a fast moving plot and has you wondering if the future could behold truths which Ruth has written about. It is definitely a story that gets you thinking along with lots of questions about technology today and what it could mean for the future. I was intrigued with the story and Ruth's world building. I was a bit thrown at first with the way the narrative changed between characters but once I worked it out I settled in for the adventure. With suspense and mystery, danger and drama and with everything from darkness to lightness it is a little twisty, thrilling and surprising read.

Lucy finds herself in a race against time to stop a hacker who is able to delete memories and change and rewrite their history.

I am looking forward to seeing what Ruth will bring us next.

I was unprepared for this riveting journey. This felt too real to be disregarded as complete fiction. I felt that Mitchell embraced the technology we currently deem possible and projected us into a reality that feels just around the corner. Thought provoking and stirring, this book will keep you guessing and will make you think. Loved it.

Deleted by Ruth Mitchell was a great, intriguing novel! I was immediately captured in this book and had a hard time putting it down! This technology filled book read perfect for just about any age. It seemed like the technology schematics in the novel is very reminiscent of what our future could hold, in terms of how advanced technology is getting and by how much our phones and gadgets rule our lives. I've never read a novel quite like this one before and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it! I can't wait to more from Mitchell in the future and I highly recommend this novel!

I received a copy of Deleted from the author, Ruth Mitchell, in return for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

The year is 2044 and Lucy is a bit of a technophobe. Unlike the majority of the population, she doesn't use Spex or mindseye technology as she isn't comfortable with the idea of technology being able to read her mind. One day, while visiting her older more techy sister, she learns to mind hack. Suddenly, her incredibly intelligent and cute crush is her boyfriend and together they're using mind hacking to solve small crimes. In their crime solving though, they stumble upon someone they shouldn't. Someone who seems to not exist and who makes his money by making others forget their memories. Now, Lucy has been deleted from everyone's memory and she is on the run from the mysterious man.

Overall, I found Deleted to be a very intriguing novel. There are multiple themes throughout the novel, but the main two focus on love/trust and the dangers of technology. The main conflict kicks off because of an abuse of technology and power. Lucy and Marco, her boyfriend, feel they can't go to the police for fear that they would further abuse mind hacking. The secondary plot revolves around Lucy and Marco's relationship and the idea that in order to love you have to remember, even if it hurts. I enjoyed the discussions about memories and how what we remember isn't necessarily 100% accurate. The plot moves at a good pace, and I loved the allusions to other texts. There was some discussions of God and his plan which I wasn't necessarily expecting. They didn't necessarily detract from the novel, but I wasn't expecting a theological discussion in the middle of a sci-fi mystery. The plot was full of twists and turns, many of which I didn't see coming. There was also a focus on change, redemption, and second chances which I believe are all important themes. This was a fast-paced and thrilling novel that I think many YA readers will enjoy.

I had no idea what to expect from this book, but I was pleasantly surprised by this page-turner. I finished it in less than a day, as I could not put it down. Ruth did a fantastic job at creating a realistic future of our world. The characters are likeable, the story moves at a fast pace, and I absolutely adore the Walden and Paradise Lost quotes and the poems.

It had the potential to be a 5 star book. That said, Deleted was a great and memorable story, which tackles themes reminiscent of Black Mirror.
