Too much talking and filler! Hard to finish but the twist was cool

Had all the potential for a great thriller, but it was so slow to start and the ending was just ok.

BOOK 97 OF 2025 📚
🌬 THE FURY - ALEX MICHAELIDES 🌬
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Summary: Elliot Chase find himself on an island with his unrequited love and all her enigmatic friends. Until one night, gun shots are heard and someone ends up murdered, or so we think. Elliot tells the tale of that night and the events leading up to it.
What I loved: I found the writing in this to be really fantastic and I loved how it played so strongly on the readers emotions. The breaking of the fourth wall, with the narrator constantly talking to you, was really enjoyable and I think allowed me to fully immerse myself in the book. It also added that humorous factor too. The ability of this author to execute the unreliable narrator trope is truly outstanding, and shows his talent with how seamlessly he blends it into the story. I also enjoyed how it mimicked a play, and how all the elements were tied together through this factor.
What didn't work: I didn't particularly connect with any of the characters unfortunately. I found them very out of touch with reality, and lacking that depth I needed to fully enjoy the story. I also felt the ending wasn't that satisfying. It was all tied up really quickly, and nothing shocked me at all. I was waiting for the other shoe to drop and for something to really wow me, but unfortunately it was too predictable for a thriller/mystery book.
Final recc: Reccomend to those that enjoy a good island mystery and for those that have read this author's work before.
