This was LONG, needlessly so, but the plot was well done and OH the writing! Though I struggled to get through it, I loved the way it was written, and that final quarter was wonderful.

A genuine 5-star read.
I don’t often visualize while reading, but this was like watching a movie in my head. Slow, creeping dread; the perfect slow burn that becomes a raging inferno. Pacing was perfect, atmospheric as heck, and the characters kept you locked in. A Perfect Horror Novel. Period.

Moderate: Child abuse, Child death
TW for cults, religious trauma, child abuse, and child death. The last two aren’t heavily featured, but are briefly to moderately mentioned and described.
Too many of my trigger warnings and I really disliked the narrators voice for the audio book
Oookay. This one got me. I had to read it in brief chunks because it was scaring the F'ing sh*t out of me. It was so dang good!!! I love a book that centers around a creepy cult.
It was reminiscent (in a very good way) of Stephen King's "It" in the way of kids escaping the evil that lives under the city only to have to battle it again in adulthood.

Meh. That’s really all I can say about this book. It’s not necessarily a bad book, but it’s certainly not a good one.
I put it down several times to read other things. And when I did pick it up, I found myself rolling my eyes most of the time. I think the only reason I finished it was to see how it would end. And the end was underwhelming to say the least.
1.5 stars rounded up to 2.
