This was definitely a more challenging read. I would recommend starting this one with no distractions and when you have a good chunk of time to truly get invested. The characters are definitely the high point with this one. You really get to know and care about them. I enjoyed the blend of cult and cosmic horror.

This was an extremely dark and depraved cult horror novel, including a small town, an evil priest, incest, devil worship, sacrifice and zombies. It is fast-paced and very well-written, with a full cast of relateable characters. I loved the tone the music choices the author referenced throughout the book, either playing on the car radio, running through the head of a certain character or even on a billboard in the town. One of my favorite reads of 2024 so far!

This book is one that will stay with me a while and I will never be able to think of the gospel song in the same light ever again. There were several points where I put it down and almost didn't pick it back up, but something kept bringing me back. The slow start and some of what felt like unneeded detail with some of the characters are why I couldn't give this one a full 5 stars.
