I love a good Victorian Gothic tale (everything seems extra spooky and saucy), and Dracula is kind of the epitome of the genre. Considering what a prominent cultural figure Dracula continues to be, I'm glad to have gone back to the roots of the icon; I feel like it really informed my understanding of the vampire genre today. Normally I'm not a fan of epistolary novels, but this book is one of few that I felt actually benefited from the letter/journal-based narrative structure. Stoker clearly put a lot of forethought into who was telling the story, leading you to question if the whole thing was just a horrid dream or collective madness. None of the characters read like perfect stereotypes, which was a pleasant and refreshing surprise. At times the narrative got a bit redundant, which I suppose makes sense given the narrative structure, but it got a bit tedious after a while hearing EVERY character's point of view on something that happened. Overall though, I'd consider this a classic work that still holds up today.

I love this friggin book and I love Mina Harker with all my heart

Pretty gross but much more fun to read than I would have thought! There's a reason it's a classic

I first read Dracula back in 1997 or 98 - in my uni days - and it blew my mind then, as it has done now on rereading. A true classic!

We read this for our book group, and I loved it a lot more than I thought I would. It's a fantastic adventure story that somehow managed to surprise me, despite Dracula being so common in our culture. I liked the writing style, and I really enjoyed the characters. Van Helsing is adorable. This is an adventure I will definitely be going on again.
