Fantastic Story and characters…yet can’t help but wishing Stoker could actually write well…and like not kill off the titular character in a single sentence while simultaneously forgetting all characterization of the characters.

It was a dark and stormy week - lots of thunderstorms and lightning, so I thought it was a good time to read "Dracula" again. I read it for the first time on Halloween night when I was 16, and loved it, although I slept with a nightlight on for two years after.
This time it was even better. I loved the poetic language and descriptions that drew me in, as Jonathan Harker began to journal his experiences with the idea that he would tell his fiancée about his travels. Th scenery, the history, the food - each was meticulously described - in very lyrical language.
Enter Dracula. At once monstrous and urbane, the Count begins to reveal himself to Jonathan Harker as time goes by. All the while, he draws information from Jonathan as he intends to travel to England to buy property there. And we are drawn into the Count's web right along with Jonathan. It's a fantastically interesting story, in my book - hats off to Mr. Stoker.
