I'm thinking 4.5, maybe even a 4.3...It is better than the first one, I think, but will round up to a 5. I liked the plot, I liked Julie, I liked Bran, and I liked the growing relationship between Kate and Curran. This one starts with Kate taking on a merc job with Jim and ends up taking a spin for the mystery side when a mysterious archer shoots at them and then steals the Packs maps. It travels on from there with Kate taking on a ward who she finds has a missing mother. It's an interesting read and I enjoyed the new characters, the return of the old ones, and learning about Kate's magical abilities. Most of all, I like how she's got a lot of power, but she's not infallible.

[4.5 Stars] This one was so completely fantastic! I love Kate, Curran, Bran, Derek, and just everyone! There is so much texture and richness when it comes to the world building, and this series just keeps surprising me. I admit I was brought fairly close to tears towards the end and was also really scared for the characters. These books are not scared to be really gritty, to actually have incredibly frightening scenarios. That ending! This is my first proper foray into adult urban fantasy, and I am loving it! My thoughts are not particularly that coherent right now, but I will hopefully do a video review for the first two or three books in the series soon!

-Kate Daniels is a entertaining character with wit, strength, and spunk.
-Felt like this ending was wrapped up a little too quickly and too nicely.
-Scenes with Kate and Curran are amazing!
-The world Ilona Andrews constructs is so intriguing and makes it an exciting series with little slag for each book.
-I really want to stick to this series and see it through!

AHHHHHHH. I need to read the next one asap. Honestly, I both love and hate multiple books slow burn romance but I am hooked on this. The jealousy plots burn so deliciously and I just want to punish myself some more.

I liked this one less than the first book, but still very much enjoyed this. I didn't really buy Kate suddenly caring about Bran at the end, but maybe that's because I'm running on not a lot of sleep right now. (Thanks baby girl!) I hope we get to see more of Curran soon because he is endlessly entertaining.

I loved the progress of this book. I still really want Kate and Curran to finally get together but I was surprised and happy to learn that Curran is courting Kate!

I don't think I've ever read/heard of a 'beastwere'. I love that this series has this unique species. I also feel bad for Andrea since she isn't happy with who she is. :(

I was really surprised to find out that Red is Descendant of one of the Hounds of Morrigan. I still don't completely understand what that means. But I DO know that Red is a horrible power hunger little bastard and I hate him for how he used Julie and then threw her aside!!! -.-

This books is really where you get the fist idea of who Kate is and how powerful she really is. "The blood that flows through me was old when she was but a vague idea. Look into her eyes, if you don't believe me." I'm glad that she used that power to threaten Red! -.-

You also get the first really hint of who Kate's father is and that he is nearby.

I'm really mad at Dr. Crest for making his fiance use Kate to get Curran to agree to the marriage. I also think he is a monumental douchebag who will never make that woman happy but at least she made the choice to be with him. >.>

I love that Kate decided to take Julie in like Greg took her in. That's really paying it forward! :D

I was also sad that Bran had to die. But I was very happy with how he died. He got to die a hero like he had wanted to for centuries. :)

Edit:

I love how Curran is courting Kate. The soup thing was really good and I love how I learned more through the novellas. The bow thing was really cute and funny.

I felt so bad for poor Andrea. She was obviously in pain and not happy with who she was. I wish she could accept being beastwere.

Red was a bit of a surprise and honestly I really wish that Kate had been willing to kill him. He was a little bastard and I regret him not dying. -.-

Poor Julie. Lost her mom and her boyfriend. At least she didn't sleep with the bastard. -.-

I love that Kate was willing to potentially expose herself to protect Julie. Go Kate!

Edit: November 2019

Beastwere is still unique and interesting. I'm glad that it's not bestiality but I am now wondering if it's rubbing right up against it...

I always find it hard to hate younger children/teens. Red is an exception. He is a horrible little bastard and I'm glad we will never see him again.

Kate is going to make an amazing Aunt. Not so much mom but aunt yes.

I'm still sad that Bran died but happy he died the way he did. Also how cool is his powers?!

Edit: February 2021

Beastwere is both wonderful and weird. Don't like the animal aspect but eh. That's just my hangup.

I'm glad we shall hopefully never see Red again. I kind of wanted Kate to kill him but he was just a child so I'm glad she didn't. It's also always fun to see these big baddies scared of Kate's blood.

Kate's a mom now. Well kind of. I don't know if she will make the best mom...

Lion courting and shapershifter courting in general is a bit subtle. How are you suppose to know he likes you when he just gives you a bowl of soup???
