it was, in fact, not a year of rest and relaxation, but rather a year of turmoil and taxidermy dogs. this was as apathetic and disturbing as it was tender and emotional. this novel held my attention from start to finish, and i’m so excited to explore more from moshfegh.

This one was interesting. It was mostly a stream of semi-consciousness from the main character, I feel like mental illness was portrayed well but maybe a little glamorized at the same time, but it felt like it fit well with the personality of the characters. Overall, I enjoyed this one!

We can have a main character be obnoxious without making it feel like a waste of time.

If I ever get chronic insomnia I know exactly what to "read" to cure me of it.  I guess that makes this book kinda meta, huh. Too bad it was pointless drivel. And I thought The Haunting of Hill House was the most somnolent book I've ever read, but this one beats it by a long shot. A book I definitely should've dnf.
