This book is so sweet! It's a wonderful ode to the diversity of humans and families, and celebrates all the things that make different families great. I didn't even realize that it's ALSO a great book for a kid who's about to become an older sibling. I'm 6 months pregnant and this book is really resonating with my 3 year old! I highly recommend this book, both for expecting parents and for a beautiful review of all the ways to be a family.

I really like the framing story in this book - Makayla's parents send her on a mission to find good things about different types of families as they prepare for the arrival of a baby brother. So right away we've established that a changing family dynamic can be fun and exciting while still validating Makayla's worries.
Several different families are explored - big families with lots of siblings, couples with no kids, single parents, divorced parents, and LGBT parents, as well as parents who work at different times of day.
informative inspiring lighthearted

Brief intro to a number of types of families.

Filled with fun illustrations and talking points on each page, this book discusses different types of families and how not all families look the same. Some have kids, some don't, some are divorced and have step- parents and step-siblings, some children are adopted and don't look like their parents, some have 2 dads, some are bi-racial, some are loud, some are quiet. No matter what type of family you have there is something special about yours.

This is a great way to help children understand the wonderful diversity we have in the world and the different ways families are created and the different ways they live. One isn't better than the other they are just different.
