After the hell storm of FBAA, I was so hesitant to pick up another JLA. I am glad I gave it a shot though, as I did enjoy this read.
Poignant, emotional, and at times very sad, I thought this was a clever “childhood best friends to lovers” book with some solid plot and themes to back it up. There was some lacking character development, particularly with side characters (ahem Hector, I want to know more about him), plot holes, some chunky grammar and editing faux pas, but in the end this book was a very fun (relatively speaking) read!
And it should be said, if there’s one thing JLA is good at, it’s amping up the sexual tension because ooooh some parts had me kicking my feet in the air.
Worth the read, loved the exploration of the foster care system and living with trauma. That part maybe could have been more researched but I’m really in no position to say. Overall a solid 3.5.
