There was definitely potential here. The writing was good and there were interesting dynamics.
I felt that the character development was a bit abrupt though and while some heavy themes like
child loss and alcoholism
were touched upon, neither seemed  fully fleshed out which either was an attempt to not trigger people (understandable) or a lack of knowledge/experience in these things.
I found the ending a bit rushed too and there’s lots of bits that just didn’t seem to be tied up at the end. Kinda left me wanting.
Overall though, it was a fun and intriguing read though a bit predictable. It gave ACOTAR/hades and persephone but stronger on the hades bit than ACOTAR was with

This was entertaining enough to keep me reading, but nothing that really wowed me.

It’s a Beauty and the Beast / Hades & Persephone retelling—that premise definitely hooked me and kept me engaged.

But overall, it was just… fine.

If I hadn't read The West Wind first, I would have DNF this book and never looked back. WW was great, but Boreas has the personality of cardboard. Wren is basically if Feyre had Nesta's attitude, and that's not meant as a compliment either. Skip this one and go straight to WW.
Lots of gross, awkward dinners, uneventful battle scenes, and mysterious doors that lead to virtually nowhere.

Potentially spoilery bc I zoned out a bit so this may be slightly (hopefully) off: When Wren learns her twin sister is planning to name a baby after their dead mother, Wren also decides to use the name for her horse?!
2.5 ⭐

I tried to give it 100 pages, but it felt too familiar to other books. It’s another version of a “not like the other girls girl”. Of course she’s a hunter who hates the main guy (they really over explain why they HAVE to hate the guy), but also finds him hot. There are too many takes on this enemies to lovers. They’re barely enemies and he should’ve just killed her idk.
