This is a very well done slow-burn enemies to lovers storyline. Wren is a pretty standard "older" sister character who does everything in her power to give her sister the life she wishes she could have but feels she doesn't deserve, and when the Frost King sets his sights on her sister, Wren immediately switches places with her and goes with the Frost King instead.
Lots of banter, murder plots and misunderstandings ensue but eventually something shifts between Wren and the Frost King - Boreas - and they become unlikely friends. That friendship deepens into a strong love connection, fueled by massive amounts of spicy tension.
Slowly, as Wren starts to learn of the unfortunate events that caused Boreas to become the man she had heard all the rumors and pre-conceived notions about, she thaws towards him and realizes that there is more to him than expected. Meanwhile, the same is happening with Boreas - he is learning that Wren has more to her than just the downside of being mortal.
The story is very entertaining at times, and the descriptions of the various different areas within the Deadlands were rich and colorful. I will be keeping my eye out for the rest of the Four Winds series!

Overall this was a good enough read.
The haters-to-lovers vibe was written well for the most part.
However, the storyline was a little choppy and sometimes boring enough for me to stop reading for a few days. Particularly the ending.
I probably won’t bother reading future books in this series.

I listened on audiobook and it just didn’t grab my attention. It was a pretty obvious Beauty and the Beast retelling, but it really dragged on. Could have been much shorter and that probably would’ve helped.
