Wow what a book to end my book slump! The entire book was well written from the world building to the character development to the fight scenes. There was only one chapter that I felt could've been skipped because the point was already driven home. The flow of the story was well paced and information was revealed in a non confusing manner. Basically this book defied all the reasons I've been in a book slump for the past couple months.
4.5 stars… honestly it was so so so close to 5 stars but it just didn’t quite hit all my marks.
wren and boreas are absolutely perfect for each other. their dynamic of the cold hearted man vs the headstrong woman is one of my favorite tropes to read. the intricacy of the realm and zephyr really made this story amazing.

This book started a little slow for me, but I enjoyed the ending (particular the epilogue!). I’m also not sure the writing style was for me, but it wasn’t enough to totally turn me off from the book.
I didn’t really enjoy Wren for most of the book. Her choices didn’t always really make sense to me. And it was weird to me that she was so distrusting of the North Wind (at first understandable, but eventually weird) but sooo trusting of the West Wind despite many people telling her not to trust him and him acting, imo, shady af.
I liked The North Wind pretty much from the start, but I felt like some of his story wasn’t explained well enough for me. And I also didn’t really understand his powers.
I may eventually read the other books in the series, but I won’t be racing to do so.

"Everything lives and everything dies, except for a god."
The North Wind is a sexy, dark romantic fantasy novel with heavy influences of Beauty and the Beast and Greek mythology. I enjoyed Wren the strong, selfless heroine with her love for reading romance novels!
"In eternity, time is meaningless. There is always another year, and another, and another. But with mortality, life is built brick by brick in the smallest of things. A lit candle. A woven blanket. Someone's hand pressing into yours, or a sweet perfume suffusing the room and teasing one's senses. The fear of death is very real."
While much of the story kept me engaged, overall I felt like some of the world building and explanations of the creatures and events were a little lacking. As a reader, I am a huge supporter of enabling a willing suspension of disbelief. I read for enjoyment and escape. I don't typically sit and analyze a story and what could've been better. On the whole, I typically believe stories are written exactly as the author wants them to be. If as a reader I don't understand or don't like something, that's my problem. It's not the fault of the author. So my ratings are typically higher than other reviewers. Unfortunately, this story didn't leave me with that, "OMG I have to tell everyone I know to read this book!" feeling. It was entertaining and I'm glad I had the opportunity to read it, but it was just ok for me.
"Maybe it's time to step away from the darkness. Time to step into the light."
If you're a fan of dark, romantic fantasy then definitely give this one a try. I rate it 4

I received an ARC from NetGalley.
I’m not normally into this genre of books but I didn’t mind it at all. I found myself trying to find moments to read it.
I didn’t really see the theme of beauty and the beast.. unless you count the books theme. But it’s not very big anyways.
Not too much fighting which was great. I hate the fantasy books when all they do is have fighting scenes.
There also wasn't that many characters which was good - I find fantasy always has a lot of characters and I find it hard to keep up.
I see this is number one in the series - I'll definitely give the next one a go. However they they need to leave Wren and Boreas’ story alone. If they make a sequel and ruin the story I’ll be mad

I thought I’d like this but I wouldn’t love it. I thought it would be a nice in between read that wouldn’t rile me up. Boy am I riled. I really enjoyed this fabulous book. The writing flowed and suited the story, the characters were enjoyable, the plot simple but enjoyable, and just an overall good time.
