I really enjoyed this slow burn fantasy romance - beauty and the beast vibes! I wouldn't say I necessarily liked the male main character, but I did like the female main character a lot! The ending being "all is well" felt a bit cliche and convenient, but still a satisfying end! It was also nice to read a stand-alone fantasy romance rather than having to commit to a series.

The book was fine. It definitely followed a similar path to ACOTAR. I just didn’t vibe with the main character. It felt like true emotion and heart were missing. I cared about the MMC more, but it was still just missing something. Depth? More? It felt like there were these big emotional parts coming, but then everything was so easily resolved. Nothing felt earned. Meh. I want to read the next book to see if the author’s writing and style improve. I really wanted to love this book.

This book was heavily influenced by ACOTAR but the characters weren’t as likeable.

For example, Wren and her sister are living in poverty and she is forced to go out hunting to keep them alive. She then goes in her sister’s place to live with the immortal high lord. Sound familiar?

Not sure why she had to be an alcoholic, it didn’t really add much to the plot.

Would probably had enjoyed it more if I hadn’t read ACOTAR.
