If the first section of the first of the two included books was it this would be a resounding 5-out-of-5, but, much like a dinner guest that would feature in one of Fran's pieces, it overstays its welcome as witty Barb's give way to cliché elitism. Worth a read, but "Metropolitan Life" is the better half and I wouldn't begrudge you stopping there.
Moderate: Bullying, Classism
I'm not sure if this was a little too dated for me or if Fran is just a bit too insensitive for my liking. I certainly chuckled from time to time, but I didn't like the book as much as I expected I would.
3.5/5
Listen. I love Fran and would listen to her talk for hours on end, but that’s just it: I’d like to listen to her talk for hours on end, not read her. Not really meant to be read cover to cover, especially since this is two collections in one, and often very funny, but also often very much a product of its time in the worst ways. Made for great vacation reading!

La sola risposta appropriata alla domanda posso essere franco?" è "Sì, se io posso essere Barbara".

I began this after watching roughly five hours of Fran’s interviews on yt (following my bingewatching of “pretend it’s a city”) and so i found the first couple (many) bits (essays?) to be dull and repetitive. I then put the book away and my goldfish memory seems to have forgotten the yt vids, because I found the second half of the book (i.e the bit months later) much funnier and wittier.
Still, sometimes she comes across as a bit smarmy - truly something, coming from me. Made me lol tho.
