A real thriller that kept me on my toes. This book had so many twists my head was spinning, but in a good way. I had many theories throughout and although I figured most of it out before the end I loved that the author kept it intriguing. He didn't over describe things which made the story flow well. I would have liked a bit more backstory on the the Pittman brothers, but overall this was a great first read by this author.
Cor! Kerry Wilkinson strikes again with this absolutely incredible page turner!
Thirteen years ago, five year old Olivia disappeared from her back garden. Now she’s back. Or is she? Her mother is convinced her daughter has returned but not everyone shares her conviction. Is the girl who came back Olivia or merely an imposter?
With The Girl Who Came Back the author has once again delivered a brilliantly executed plot. It is completely engrossing and compelling with tons of complex, and some quite unlikeable, characters. Its slow pace works like a charm, as does the setting of this sleepy village where everybody seems to know everybody’s business. Although maybe not quite because how is it possible that a five year old can just disappear like that?
Slowly but surely family secrets will be revealed and some skeletons will fall out of the closets. And in the middle of all of that, there’s the always interesting topic of nature versus nurture that has you wondering if things might have turned out differently in an alternate universe.
Tension bubbles away underneath the surface throughout the story and there was this subtle threatening vibe that had me on the edge of my seat. There are tiny clues along the way that are sometimes quite easy to miss but when you pick up on them, they’ll have you wracking your brain trying to figure out what’s going on. And just when you think you know, there’s a twist or two that’ll make your head spin.
This is quite a quick read but utterly absorbing. Kerry Wilkinson is an amazing writer whose stories constantly manage to reel me in and keep me hooked. All I can say is, I’d like some more, please.

Interesting read which leaves you guessing until the end. I thought it was strange that considering Olivia had disappeared for so many years, nobody really asked where she’d been.... it was only mentioned once!
I enjoyed the book, but it wasn't earth shattering. It was more of a little escape to a life I don't have and never want. I could anticipate most of the plot and the story is a "thriller". Nothing goes very deep, well other than those murder weapons. Still the story may stay with me. I kind of liked the girl, the main character, who came back.
The Girl Who Came Back talks about a girl, Olivia, who disappears at the age of 6 and returns to her hometown after 13 years. The mother recognizes her and together with her best friend accepts her. Meanwhile, the mother has remarried and the new husband with her brother-in-law thinks that Olivia is a scammer. How come they are so sure she’s an impostor? What’s behind the disappearance of a 6-year-old girl? And who is Olivia?
I liked the book even if it was a bit slow. I’m not sure I share the protagonist’s point of view. How many people died to get where she wanted? I agree that some people should be eliminated because they are worse than animals, I will never change my mind about this, not even after a 24-hour speech by human rights activists. But I can’t fully share the protagonist’s reasons.

Whilst I have read the Jessica Daniels series and enjoyed them this is the first standalone novel that I have read by Kerry Wilkinson. And it is good, I will go as far as saying it is excellent. It is one that had me biting my nails with anticipation over what would be revealed.
When Olivia returns home to the village she was abducted from thirteen years earlier she gets a mixed response. Obviously, her parents are delighted along with family friends but there are also those who question her intent and her story. Some of the tales she tells about the life she had are a little extravagant and I was unsure at times whether to believe her, or if she wasn’t Olivia why was she insisting she was?
This was a book I raced through. Its mainly set in the modern day but there are sporadic chapters from Olivia’s childhood. These reveal what happened to her, how she was let down and how she fought back. They show a growing independence as well as a growing need to be loved. At times, they are sinister and upsetting. Some of the characters are intimidating, and not just with Olivia. There are many people in the village who were controlled and threatened by a couple of people.
One of the things that Olivia did left me a little sickened and made me question her character but when all was revealed, I understood more why she did it. Even though it was something I struggle to accept.
A great read and a reminder that I need to read the books that I haven’t read by this author. With thanks to the publisher for the copy received.
