Goodreads has this entry only half right. Yes, Douglas Adams wrote this, but he had help from ex-Monty Pythoner, Terry Jones. Douglas wrote the game that it's based on.
I never played the game, but I did read the book. Not Douglas' best, but it's still realy funny. After all, this is Douglas Adams and Monty Python, together where they beling. How could it be bad?
Check it out.

Not as good as the first time I read it, but they never are. Still, pretty good, for a novel that was written in three weeks.
A founding member of The Monty Python writing a sci fi book for Douglas Adams: what can possibly go right?
I tried to read this book but was only able to make it through the first few chapters. It's a Douglas Adams story written by Terry Jones (of Monty Python fame; the reason for this is described in the introduction). It's written in a typical Adams fashion using lots of silly names. But the story itself was not at all interesting. I'm not surprised I've never heard of this before I saw the used copy for a few dollars.
easily the best book I've ever read that was based on a CD-ROM computer game, especially under the sub-category of books written by comedians I like based on CD-ROM games by favorite authors. I dare say it tops both of those lists.
A fun, quick read. Nothing too amazing -- the characters are rather flat and the plot a bit thin -- but the witty writing makes up for it.
