My 6 year old and I really enjoyed listening to this one. Willy wonka is hilariously passive aggressive. Funny jokes that went over her head. Awesome audiobook narrator too with sound effects!

It was a different experience reading the book many years later as an adult. There were more subtle themes reflecting on poverty and excess as well as capitalism and intellectual property. Some of the children’s vices seem a bit less offensive these days, though some do not. All in all, a fun book that has some morals in there as well (for both children and adults).

I listened to this with my family on a recent road trip. It was nostalgic for me and fun for the kids. I believe Wonka's acerbic wit was lost on me when I read it many years ago.

Subversively, I enjoyed an unpolitically-correct story that could not be written for children in modern times.

My 5 year old loved every second of having this book read to her. My 3 year old even enjoyed some of it. They begged me to read more when we finished each chapter. This is the first Roald Dahl book we’ve read and we can’t wait to read more!

I did want to add, that the whole background about the Oompa Loopas didn’t really add anything to the story. I can understand criticisms of that part.
